ABOUT CAMP GRIZZLY

The Only ``of, by, for`` the Deaf Summer Camp in California

Camp Grizzly for Deaf, Hard of Hearing & KODA Youth.

Not all summer camp programs are alike. Recognizing the underserved needs of our Deaf and hard of hearing youth, NorCal Services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing established a weeklong summer leadership youth program, Camp Grizzly in 1999. The only way to serve our young people is by providing adult mentors who share the same experiences of life as a Deaf, hard of hearing or Koda youth.

Communication is accessed 24/7 with all program staff and counselors whereas Sign Language and Deaf Culture is revered and celebrated. Camp Grizzly is staffed by community volunteers with various background skills and experiences in leadership, education, recreation, advocacy and social services.

I had lots of fun and didn’t want to leave. I love to catch up with old friends and make new ones!
It was the best summer camp ever! I had great time here and have met a lot of new friends! I’ll be back!
The activities were so much fun all week!

A camp and retreat center in Wilseyville, Calaveras County, California for nonprofit groups of 12-167, located at an elevation of 3000 feet in the sierra foothills

Camp Lodestar occupies 425 acres of meadow and woodlands. It is rich in varied ecological environments and steeped in the history of the mother lode country.

Camp Lodestar is ideal for outdoor education. On-site Indian grinding rocks inspire a hands-on experience of Native American daily life. Camp Lodestar offers diverse plant and animal life to study and appreciate along trails through the meadow, along a river and pond, and through forests.
